Now its been said for MANY years that White Wine goes with fish and poultry and Red Wine
goes with red meats such as lamb and beef. But this isn’t necessarily true anymore. The new rule has been “drink what tastes right to you.” Mix it up some. If you like Red Wine
with your white fish, go for it! I went to Culinary School when I was younger. We learned everything there was to learn about Wine. I think it is genuinely one of the most fascinating products in the world, and so classically romantic! When I think of a nice glass of Red Wine
, I think of some of the most romantic places on earth. Someday I think I would actually like to visit a vineyard, in Tuscany. Ah well we’ll leave those thoughts to the dreamers, on to our wines!
Cheese – Most people will agree that some things just go with wine. Cheese is one of those things. ANY cheese goes with just about any wine. Very versatile. But here’s a few examples for you.
Blue Cheese, Goat Cheese, and Cheddar: Try a nice Dessert Wine. One that’s not too sweet but sweet enough. Recommendation: Cockburn 20 year old Tawny – Port Dessert Wine
or Chateau de Montfort 2006 Vouvray – Chenin Blanc White Wine
. These wines will both really cut down on the tanginess of the cheeses.
Mozzarella, Jarlsberg, Kasseri: Light reds. Recommendation: La Vis 2006 Pinot Nero Trentino – Pinot Noir Red Wine.
Brie, Mild Cheddar, Chevre, Colby, Gouda etc: Charles Heidsieck 1981 Champagne Charlie – Champagne & Sparkling goes excellent with these choices!
Manchego, Brie, Stilton (my fave!): Beringer 2003 Knights Valley Alluvium Red – Bordeaux Blends Red Wine
I could go on and on with my cheeses but its time to move on to some other food choices in this little guide! Ill try to cover as much as I can as quickly and simply as I can. Some of the examples below will include, steak type items, lamb, pork, veal and much more.

Well that went pretty quickly! I love the study of wines, if I could continually study one thing my entire life it would be wine. There’s the classic Cabernets and Chardonnay’s but there’s also a new wine popping up every week. Check out your local Winery or Vineyard. My favorite wine of all time is a nice crisp clean Riesling. And again, of course any food can go with any wine. That’s your personal preference. But if you ever wondered what went with what, or wanted a little guide, the above items should help you out, a lot. Also if you ever have any questions about this stuff go search on Google or ask the person in your nearest liquor store! Au Revoir!
